Recently, Concepto Azul has been providing scientific and technical advisory to launch the Master of molecular biology in the University of Guayaquil (Biotechnology Program).
The Master of molecular biology inputs scientific innovation and research development in the fields of human health, animal, vegetal and environmental sciences, familiarizing human resources to the use of modern biotechnologies’ concepts and techniques.
Through this training period, participants are enabled to understand, develop and apply recent scientific knowledge in applied biotechnology, then assimilating the core principles of the cell’s molecular organization and performance.
SESSION: 2010 – 2012
Conesup RCP.S03. N° 086. 10
Under the aegis of the Ecuadorian Society of Molecular biotechnology (SOBIOTEC)

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Train human resources with a high academic profile and equip participants with the necessary skills which will serve them to undertake any fundamental or applied investigations involving molecular biology in their area of specialisation.
Diffuse and share the latest available scientific knowledge available in the field of molecular biology among participants.
|
|
| |
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
-
Provide graduates and professionals with a strong conceptual and methodological background in biotechnologies; promote direct applications in the fields of biomedicine, industry, farming, pharmaceutics, and food processing and environmental science. More generally, allow publics showing a particular interest in biotechnology (whether in its basic aspects, processes or products) to develop individual skills.
-
Train professionals to fit the growing demand for qualified human resources in biotechnology industries and effectively respond to our country’s need to modernise health and agro-production sectors, hence contributing to the effort to reduce the existing gaps between fundamental science innovations and its practical implementation.
-
Raise participant’s awareness through the discipline of bioethics which is concerned with the purpose and focus of biotechnology and, in particular, the need to promote individual and social welfare. The bioethical approach includes an introduction to ethical, moral and legal concerns raised by the development of biotechnologies, as well as, a first approach to intellectual property rights, patent law as well as bio-security concepts.

GRADUATION
The degree to be delivered at the end of the biotechnology Program, once every academic requirement is fulfilled, is designated by:
Magister en Molecular biotechnology |
|

|
DURATION:
24 months academic period
- Spécialisation en Biotechnologie Moléculaire :
12 months (academic)
At the end of the first academic year, participants that have attended lectures and tutorials and have complied with the program requirements can opt for the title of “specialist in molecular biology”.
- Master en Biotechnologie Moléculaire : 12 months (academic)
For those who do opt for the title of Magister in molecular biotechnology and want to integrate the second academic year of the Program, it is first required to obtain the title of Specialist in Molecular biology (validation of the 1st year), later on participants are required to validate various coursework modules and eventually undertake a supervised research project leading to the production of a thesis.

STUDENTS PROFILE ONCE TRAINED
Knowledges :
-
The professional that achieves the Master of Molecular biology will possess the fundamental theoretical background in biotechnologies that encompasses cells biology, molecular biology, genetics, bioethics, methodology of investigation, specific subjects that later enable its direct application to one’s field of specialisation at the workplace. The basic scientific knowledge refers to the core nature of nucleic acids, DNA, RNA, mobile genetic elements, repetitive sequences, restriction enzymes, proteins’ synthesis and its regulation, transcription, the genetic code, the protein diversity, etc… Moreover, participants gets to be familiar with various molecular biology tools such as enzymes, vectors, hosts cells and nucleotide probes; purification, determination, amplification and sequencing of DNA, Polymerase Chain Reaction and variants, LAMP, Real Time PCR, Confocal microscopy. Post-graduates eventually acquire the necessary background to apply a large range of methodologies and techniques of investigation, diagnostic, prevention oriented towards human beings welfare. These technical and theoretical assets will enable participants to deal with modern concepts of genomics, proteomics, transciptomic and information biosciences with direct applications to their professional needs.
|
TECHNICAL SKILLS :
- Graduates from the biotechnology program will be familiarised with the use of a vast range of techniques varying from extraction, purification and characterization of DNA, separation by electrophoresis, as well as, amplification techniques: PCR, Nested PCR; RFLP-PCR, RT-PCR, Real Time PCR, LAMP, Confocal Microscopy.
